Dress code
On the course: recognised golf clothing. Tailored shorts are fine; football shirts, beachwear and metal spikes are not. Trainers designed for golf or flat-soled shoes are acceptable in dry conditions — proper golf shoes are strongly recommended on a links where the ground has opinions.
In the clubhouse: smart casual. Clean golf wear is welcome after your round; please change out of wet gear and take off your cap at the bar. No football colours.
If in doubt, call the club before you travel — nobody has ever been turned away for asking.
Local rules
As printed on the current (temporary) scorecard. The card in your hand is always authoritative.
- The course is bounded by fences and white posts.
- The 9th hole is out of bounds when playing the 1st/10th, 8th/17th and 18th holes.
- Immovable obstructions: all roads and paths are immovable obstructions. Relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 16.
- All walls and fences are integral parts of the course.
- The Longwater is a red penalty area when playing the 2nd. When playing the 11th, 8th and 17th holes it is a yellow penalty area.
- If the ball enters the red penalty area to the right of and behind the green when playing the 3rd and 12th, relief can be taken using the drop zone in accordance with Rule 17.
- There are a number of crossover holes and particular care should be taken when playing them: 4th/13th, 5th/14th, 7th/16th and 8th.
- If your ball enters the yellow penalty area when playing the 7th and 16th, relief can be taken using the drop zone.
- If the ball enters the red penalty area behind the green when playing the 4th and 13th, relief can be taken using the drop zone in accordance with Rule 17.

While the temporary layout is in effect, play to the temporary ratings below (from 4 February 2026). The full 18-hole course was certified on 23 May 2022.

Community Amateur Sports Club
Gosport & Stokes Bay Golf Club is registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC). The club is run by its members on a not-for-profit basis: surpluses go back into the course, the clubhouse and the development of the game — including our junior section — not to shareholders.
Safeguarding
The club follows England Golf safeguarding guidance for children and adults at risk. Our safeguarding policy documents and the name of the current Welfare Officer are available from the Secretary and posted in the clubhouse.
